Bunk beds are great for kids, but can be downright dangerous for adults - getting out of them is a real problem. As seen in the picture, the correct descending technique must be learnt before any action is attempted. This is maybe where Tyrone went wrong - thankfully the details of the incident were officially recorded.

Prior to getting off the bunk bed you must study the correct technique for descending

Description of Incident: While descending from the top bunk, Tyrone placed his right hand onto the sliding door rail of the shower room.  The rail has sharp edges and he sustained a minor superficial cut to his right hand little finger.

Immediate Cause: Unaware of the sharp edges on the bathroom sliding door rail.

Underlying Cause: The size of the sleeping quarters is too small for a modest built person and Tyrone finds it difficult to descend from the top bunk using the bunk ladder. He had to steady himself by placing his right hand onto a protruding section of the opposite wall, which is the shower room door rail.

Corrective Actions Taken:

1.         The superficial cut was administered by the medic on-board with a plaster.

2.         He was also briefed on the correct way of ascending and descending from the top bunk.
